Diagnosis and Treatments

Prior to any treatment, duplex ultrasound is used to diagnose whether venous reflux is present. If it is, the method of treatment depends on the size and structure of the veins.

Large varicose veins such as the saphenous vein are best treated with endovenous laser ablation so that the vein will remained permanently closed.

Other smaller varicose veins may be treated with foam sclerotherapy in instances where the veins are twisted.

Spider veins are also treated with sclerotherapy if they do not resolve within a few months after the larger veins are treated.
